Tips for Choosing Precious Necklaces

Prices are based on a necklace’s Therapeutic Quality, Carat Weight, Price per Carat, and Length.

Therapeutic Quality 

(Qualities 1 – 6)

Only the finest quality, pure gems yield the therapeutic results we expect from gemstone energy medicine. The higher a gem’s quality, the more therapeutically powerful it is. Gemisphere’s Quality categories range from 1 to 6, with 6 being the highest quality and therefore the most therapeutically potent. Note that as a gem rises in quality, its potency often increases far more than its price. Going up even one level of quality can deliver many times more therapeutic power.

Carat Weight

Next to quality, the most important factor in determining a gemstone’s therapeutic power is mass. A carat is a unit of weight used to measure gemstones. Quality being equal, necklaces with higher carat weights, and thus more mass, are more potent than those with lower carat weights. If your neck is sensitive to weight, consider wearing necklaces with lower carat weights.

Price per Carat

A gemstone’s price per carat is another expression of its therapeutic quality—i.e., higher quality gemstones naturally cost more per carat. Taken together, a necklace’s Quality category and Price per Carat help indicate a gemstone’s therapeutic quality and potency. 

Necklace Length

Quality and other factors being equal, longer necklaces are more therapeutically potent than shorter ones, because they contain more gemstone mass. Consider your comfort when choosing; for example, shorter people may prefer wearing shorter necklaces. If you wish to wear more than one necklace simultaneously, ideally, they should be of different lengths. For more information about wearing multiple necklaces, see our FAQ page.

Most necklaces 23 inches or shorter contain a 14K gold clasp; necklaces 24 inches or longer have no clasp.
