To maintain their effectiveness, therapeutic gemstones require regular care. As these gems help us release energetic impurities, some energies cling to the gems’ surfaces, inhibiting their ability to work at peak capacity. A simple energetic cleansing will clear these energies and restore the gems to their naturally vibrant state. You can use any of the following methods to cleanse your gemstones:
Plant Rejuvenation: 2 – 3 times a week, place the gems at the base of a healthy houseplant. Alternatively, trees, plants, and flowers located in shaded outdoor areas are also suitable.
Salt Bed: 2 – 3 times a week, in a bowl filled with a half-inch of table salt, lay the gems gently on top of the salt for at least an hour or overnight.
Water Rinse: Rinse the gems daily with room-temperature water for the first two weeks, then 2 – 3 times a week thereafter. Mild hand soap can be used to remove excess dirt, oils, or lotions.
When Your Gemstones First Arrive
When you begin to work with a new gemstone or one you haven’t interacted with for a while, introduce it into your aura with consciousness and clear intent. We call this “practicing presence.” By opening yourself to the gems' energies and consciously cooperating with the process of change, you can greatly enhance the gemstones' benefits.
The price of each necklace, bracelet, or gem energy tool is based on its therapeutic quality, length, gem size (for semi-precious), and gem weight and price per carat (for precious).
Therapeutic Quality
(Qualities 1 – 6)
Only the finest quality, pure gems yield the therapeutic results we expect from gemstone energy medicine. The higher a gem’s quality, the more therapeutically powerful it is. Gemisphere’s Quality categories range from 1 to 6, with 6 being the highest quality and therefore the most therapeutically potent. Note that as a gem rises in quality, its potency often increases far more than its price. Going up even one level of quality can deliver many times more therapeutic power.

Gem Size (Semi-Precious)

Next to quality, the most important factor in determining a gemstone’s therapeutic power is mass. Quality being equal, larger gems (8 mm or 10 mm) are more potent than smaller ones (4 mm or 6 mm), because they have more mass. If your neck is sensitive to weight, consider wearing necklaces with smaller gems.

Carat Weight (Shown as Carats)
A carat is a unit of weight used to measure gemstones. Quality being equal, necklaces with higher carat weights, and thus more mass, are more potent than those with lower carat weights. If your neck is sensitive to weight, consider wearing necklaces with lower carat weights.
Price per Carat (Shown as $/Carat)
In our ordering charts, the price per carat is another expression of a gemstone’s therapeutic quality—i.e., higher quality gemstones naturally cost more per carat. Taken together, a necklace’s Quality category and Price per Carat help indicate a gemstone’s therapeutic quality and potency.

Quality and other factors being equal, longer necklaces are more therapeutically potent than shorter ones, because they contain more gemstone mass. Consider your comfort when choosing; for example, shorter people may prefer wearing shorter necklaces. Most necklaces 23 inches or shorter contain a 14K gold clasp; necklaces 24 inches or longer have no clasp.
